Valley AAA 5 Information and Assistance Team

The Valley Area Agency on Aging (VAAA), serving Region 5 in the Flint area, helps caregivers make a loved one’s home safer through its free Information and Assistance (I&A) Team. When the priority is preventing falls and keeping someone safely at home, the I&A Team is the central place to begin.

I&A specialists assess each situation and connect families to home-safety supports — in-home services, home modifications, assistive technology, medical equipment, and care management — and to programs such as the MI Choice Medicaid Waiver where appropriate. VAAA also uses MI Connection to link families to resources across Michigan’s network of sixteen Area Agencies on Aging. Because falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults, reducing home hazards is one of the most impactful steps a caregiver can take, and a single call can connect families to assessments, equipment, and programs that may help cover costs.
