Area Agency on Aging 3A Information and Assistance Team

The Area Agency on Aging Region 3A, serving Kalamazoo County, operates an Information and Assistance (I&A) Team that is the free, central starting point for older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers seeking help — including assistive technology and medical equipment that support aging in place.

I&A specialists assess each caller’s needs and connect them to the right services: home-delivered meals, home repair, respite, transportation, medical equipment, and community case management led by licensed social workers and registered nurses. The agency also administers voucher programs for dental, respite, and food assistance, the MI Options program, and its flagship Choices for Independence initiative, which provides free assessment and arranges personal care, adult day care, emergency response systems, and medication management for residents 60 and older. Noting that nearly one in four Michiganders are unpaid caregivers, the agency also runs a Caregiver Resource Center.
