About this resource

UPCAP is the Area Agency on Aging serving Michigan’s entire Upper Peninsula, and its Information and Assistance (I&A) Team is the free front door to the region’s network of services for older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers. When a family doesn’t know where to begin — including how to find assistive technology and equipment — the I&A Team is the place to start.

Information and Assistance specialists listen to a caller’s situation, help identify needs, and connect them to the right programs — whether that’s in-home care, respite, nutrition, caregiver support, or devices and assistive technology that help a loved one stay safe and independent. Because UPCAP coordinates aging services across all fifteen U.P. counties, a single call can open doors to multiple supports tailored to the realities of a vast, rural region where services can otherwise be hard to locate.

This resource matters because the Upper Peninsula’s distances and small communities make a knowledgeable, centralized guide especially valuable; without one, caregivers can spend hours searching for help that an I&A specialist can pinpoint in minutes. The service is free and designed to reach people wherever they are, including by phone. For U.P. families exploring assistive technology or any aging service, UPCAP’s Information and Assistance Team is the natural first contact — reachable through upcap.org.
